Frequently asked questions

General

Why are you called Dr Wrinkles when you seem to offer so many other treatments too?

Anti-wrinkle treatments are a significant part of our business, and lots of our clients are interested in that but it's true that we offer lots more besides, and treatments for excessive sweating and other cosmetic procedures are becoming very popular.

Anti-wrinkle treatments

What does the wrinkle-treatment process feel like? Does it hurt?

The process involves lots of tiny injections just beneath the skin with an extremely small needle. Some clients say that the injections are a little uncomfortable but this is usually completely temporary (and the sensation can be reduced by numbing the injection area beforehand with an ice pack). After the treatment you can go back to working or playing immediately.

Are results guaranteed?

The vast majority of our clients tell us that they are very happy with the results of the treatments we provide (see some testimonials here). As with many treatments though, results vary from person to person. Because Dr Wrinkles keeps thorough records of every individual's treatment, future treatments can be optimised to the individual, for example by using a little more muscle relaxant if necessary to achieve the effect you want.

Can you tell me more about what is in the injections?

It is against the code of conduct of Medicines Australia to advertise brands names of medical products but you can find out more about what the injections contain on the Allergan website.

Can I be sure that the treatment is safe?

Dr Wrinkles is an experienced Australian-trained doctor who puts your wellbeing first at all times. All materials used by Dr Wrinkles have been rigorously tested and passed by the Therapeutics Goods Association and are proven to be extremely safe.

Dr Wrinkles will undertake a full suitability assessment before treating you and will provide you with detailed advice about what to do in the highly unlikely event that you experience any side effects.

What are the risks?

The treatments offered at Dr Wrinkles have been rigorously tested and are proven to be extremely safe. More than ten million treatments have been administered in the United States alone, and no permanent side-effects have ever been reported. The most common temporary side effects are soreness or, very occasionally, temporary bruising, redness or swelling at the site of injection. In some very rare cases patients have reported excessive relaxation (drooping) of the muscles in the eyelid, which is completely reversible.

Will it make me look fake?

Dr Wrinkles takes great pride in the results of his work and you can be completely assured that he will administer your treatment with the utmost care, ensuring a natural, youthful look without telltale flatness.

Treatments for excessive sweating

What does the treatment feel like? Does it hurt?

The treatment involves lots of tiny injections just beneath the surface of the skin. Depending on the person, and the area being treated, this process is relatively painless, or can involve some discomfort. An ice pack is usually the only anaesthetic required, but a mild sedative anaesthetic may sometimes be used.

How do you define overactive sweat glands?

Sweating in normal temperatures and with minimal or no physical effort is defined as "excessive".

Why do I have overactive sweat glands?

The two main causes of overactive sweat glands are genetics (which you're born with) and lifestyle (diet, occupation, exercise levels and so on). Very rarely, overactive sweat glands can be a symptom of an underlying medical condition. Dr Wrinkles always conducts a full assessment prior to any treatment, and will refer you for appropriate medical treatment if this appears to be required.

Is it safe to stop overactive sweat glands?

Yes, it's completely safe to stop overactive sweat glands.

What are the side effects?

More than ten million treatments have been administered in the United States alone, and no permanent side-effects have ever been reported. The most common temporary side effects are soreness or, very occasionally, temporary bruising at the site of injection. In very rare circumstances, some weakness in the arm muscles has been described following treatment of the hands, but this is completely reversible.

Won't the sweat just come out somewhere else?

Some people do notice a slight increase in sweat production from other areas, but any increases are mild and far outweighed by the reduction they see in the specific problem areas.

Dermal Fillers

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal facial fillers are a man-made version of a compound that our skin naturally makes on its own to retain water and keep our skin hydrated. They firm and cushion the soft tissues just beneath the skin, giving it back its youthful plumpness.

What can you treat with dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are ideal for smoothing out creases around the mouth, forehead, eyes and lips, where they add a pleasing fullness. They can also be used to reshape the nose, chin, jawline and cheeks.

How much filler will I need?

During your consultation, Dr Wrinkles will work with you to determine the right amount of filler to give you the look you want. You can even begin with a small amount of facial filler and build up step by step.

Is it safe to use dermal fillers?

Dr Wrinkles is an experienced Australia-trained doctor whom puts your well being first at all times. All materials used by Dr Wrinkles are supplied by Allergan, world leaders in cosmetic medicines, and have been rigorously tested and passed by the Therapeutics Goods Association and are proven to be extremely safe.

The dermal fillers used by Dr Wrinkles have been used around the world for more than 12 years. Because they are a man-made form of a substance that our bodies produce naturally, they are very safe and are not known to cause allergic reactions.

How do dermal fillers work?

Dermal fillers cushion the soft tissue just beneath the skin, plumping and flattening age lines, creases and depressions. As well as giving you instantly younger-looking skin, the cushioning also prevents the skin from creasing and folding thereby providing significant protection from further ageing.

What happens during the procedure? Does it hurt?

During the treatment, Dr Wrinkles injects small amounts of dermal filler into the treatment area through a tiny needle. In most cases, a mild local anaesthetic means that the process is relatively painless (the anaesthetic usually wears off in 30 to 40 minutes and most clients say there is no discomfort afterwards).

How long does the procedure take?

Most treatment sessions usually last about 30minutes. You may require up to 3 sessions, depending on the area to be treated.

How long will it take to recover?

Most people are able to return to their normal routine immediately after treatment, and there is usually no discomfort. There can be some swelling and redness around the treatment area for a few hours, and some people notice a few tiny needle prick marks and some local bruising which can be easily masked with make-up.

If you're using fillers to plump up your lips, younger people will recover overnight, but some older people experience reasonable swelling for two to three days.

Will you provide aftercare?

Of course, and it's important to return for a follow-up appointment between three to five days after your treatment. During your follow-up, Dr Wrinkles will mould and massage the treatment area to ensure there are no lumps and fix any slight movements, as well as checking that the filler is providing maximum support.

Are results guaranteed?

The vast majority of our clients tell us that they are very happy with the results of the dermal filler treatments we provide. As with many treatments though, results vary from person to person. Because Dr Wrinkles keeps thorough records of every individual's treatment, future treatments can be optimised to the individual, for example by using a little more filler if necessary to achieve the effect you want.

How long will the effects last?

Because they mimic a naturally-occurring body product, dermal fillers are slowly absorbed by the body and will require topping up after six months to a year, depending on the type and the amount used and the site injected. The more filler you use, and the thicker and firmer version of the product, the longer it will remain in place. Additionally, the less the treated area moves, the longer the effects of the filler will last.
